Ocean Park No. 38
Richard Diebenkorn ( 1971 )
Ocean Park No. 38 is characteristic of Diebenkorn’s monumental series of paintings that, for all their apparent abstraction, were developed from direct impressions of the light and architecture of southern California, as well as the view from the artist’s studio. With their scraped and thinly painted smudged layers of color, yet crystalline and clear sense of light and form, these paintings are the ultimate in Diebenkorn’s formal and chromatic explorations, resulting in work that are both sensuous and classically serene.
