Walker Evans ( 1936 )
During the Depression, Walker Evans photographed workers in the southeastern states for the Farm security Administration. These images are notable for their clarity and simplicity. In the summer of 1936, both Evans and writer James Agee lived with and documented the lives of Alabama sharecroppers. This photograph is one of the many pictures that Evans took during that summer. Evans and Agee published their collaborative work in the 1941 book Let Us Now Praise Famous Men. This is the first photograph by Evans to enter the collection.
