The Phillips Collection Celebrates 95 Years in 2016!
The Phillips marks this important milestone with signature events throughout the year, including free admission for visitors on their birthday
WASHINGTON—2016 marks The Phillips Collection’s 95th anniversary, and today Director DorothyKosinski announced that the museum will be celebrating this milestone all year. To kickoff the countdown towards the museum’s centennial in 2021, the Phillips will raffle prizes, hold monthly#Phillips95 social media challenges, and host signature events throughout 2016, including the following:

Phillips after 5: It’s About Time (Jan. 7): Contemplate the past, present, and future with a resolution station, travel through time with selections from time-hopping TV shows, and sip on thyme-infused cocktails.

Book Talk & Signing: Christopher Rothko (Jan. 28): Son of Abstract Expressionist painter Mark Rothko, Christopher Rothko presents selections from his recent publication, Mark Rothko: From the Inside Out.

Duncan Phillips Lecture: Bridget Riley (Apr. 28): One of the foremost champions of Op Art, Engligh artist Bridget Riley discusses her work’s dedication to the interaction of form and color and exploration of perception.
“For 95 years, we have been dedicated to preserving our founder Duncan Phillips’s pioneering spirit and mission by extending the transformative power of art into new contexts,” says Kosinski. “As we count down towards the Phillips’s centennial in 2021, we celebrate our rich history of acclaimed international exhibitions, vibrant programs, and increasingly diverse partnerships and look towards our future as a wellspring of innovation, educational outreach, and groundbreaking collaborations. I hope everyone will celebrate this pivotal moment in the history of America’s first museum of Modern art with us in 2016.”
