Event Details
Brooklyn-based Icelandic artist Hrafnhildur Arnardóttir, who goes by the name Shoplifter, experiments with artificial hair that she dyes into a rainbow of hypernatural colors and arranges into organic sculptures or massive landscapes. She views hair as an original, creative fiber and a means of self-expression, as well as a path to the exploration of vanity, self-image, beauty, and mythology. Her work is featured in the exhibition Nordic Impressions: Art from Åland, Denmark, the Faroe Islands, Finland, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden, 1821–2018. In 2019, Shoplifter will represent Iceland at the 58th Venice Biennale.
Shoplifter will be in conversation with Klaus Ottmann, Chief Curator and Deputy Director for Academic Affairs.
