Join the Phillips for an enriching and inspiring professional development workshop for educators. Using Jacob Lawrence’s Migration Series as the lens for reflection, participants will delve into themes like overcoming adversity and embracing the power of community. Educators will learn from experts in the field and local best-practice educators while experiencing the artwork and practicing community-based artmaking with colleagues. During the workshop, attendees will be invited to experiment with the new online Shake Up K12 interactive, designed to spark arts-integrated lessons from Lawrence’s masterwork. Planned in conjunction with special exhibition People on the Move: Beauty and Struggle in Jacob Lawrence’s Migration Series, the workshop will also provide the rare opportunity to see all 60 panels reunited and consider how the artist’s masterpiece of American narrative painting continues to resonate in today’s socio-cultural landscape.
