The Conversation

The Conversation depicts a delicate flower on a long stem, touching the ground. Although falling-down and looking fragile, the piece, cast in bronze, gains a new strenghth: physical and psychological.

Trained as a printmaker, Linda Ridgway turned to sculpture more than 20 years ago and is best known for her sculptural installations. Working predominantly with bronze, she continuously explores artistic processes, adding her printmaker’s point of view to an age-old medium, and creating incredibly delicate works that remain intimate regardless of scale. Ridgway creates unique sculptures that appear to have been allowed to fall randomly, like The Conversation, reflecting her ambivalent feelings about traditional “women’s work,” and suggesting both celebration and repression. She keeps the original nature of her subjects through a unique bronze casting method, maintaining their organic beauty while imbuing them with a sense of forced permanence.
