Snapshot: Painters and Photography, Bonnard to Vuillard
(Feb 4–May 6, 2012)
Curator Eliza Rathbone introduces Snapshot: Painters and Photography, Bonnard to Vuillard
For renowned post-impressionist artists like Pierre Bonnard and Edouard Vuillard, the new technology of the Kodak handheld camera energized their working methods and creative vision. Approximately 200 snapshots made by them and five other artists, most previously unpublished, are displayed with 70 paintings and works on paper that the snapshots inspired, revealing fascinating parallels in cropping, lighting, and vantage point.
