Celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Choral Arts Society of Washington, Artistic Director Scott Tucker brings the Choral Arts Chamber Chorus to The Phillips Collection. A group dedicated to exploring the music of cultures and countries beyond the Western canon, their Phillips debut features works by Finnish composer Einojuhani Rautavaara, Veljo Tormis of Estonia, and 15th-century Franco-Flemish composer Johannes Ockeghem.

About the Artists
Under the leadership of Scott Tucker, Artistic Director, Choral Arts is a prestigious symphonic chorus which performs an annual concert series at Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and other prominent venues throughout the DC, community including a fall concert, a holiday series, a choral tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr., concerts in the spring, and two Concerts for Students. Based in the nation’s capital, Choral Arts has a world-wide reputation, having performed on three continents and on international and internet broadcasts. Comprised of over 170 singers, the Choral Arts Chorus has performed with world-class orchestras, conductors, solo artists, and ensembles. Choral Arts has an impressive discography of 19 commercial recordings, and regularly appears on national broadcasts as part of A Capitol Fourth and The Kennedy Center Honors. Choral Arts has an impressive history of commissioning and performing new works, as well as presenting area and world premieres of outstanding contemporary music.
Founded in 1965 by Artistic Director Emeritus Norman Scribner, Choral Arts stands out as a leader among its peers, earning awards, not only for its artistic excellence, but its administrative leadership and educational portfolio. Under the executive direction of Debra L. Kraft, Choral Arts has consistently operated in the black since 2004, remaining fiscally strong in spite of recent economic challenges. Choral Arts is dedicated to connecting with DC’s growing diversity inclusive of race, ethnicity, age, and abilities. This is achieved through performing choral music reflective of the world with an attention to authenticity, and through a variety of inspiring programs managed by Choral Arts’ award-winning education department that reaches local, national, and international students and teachers.
