The Shower
Georges Braque ( 1952 )
As one of the original members of the Fauve movement, Georges Braque began his career painting color-filled landscapes, which he then abandoned to pursue the more conceptual goals of Cubism. In the 1950s, perhaps under the influence of his friend and fellow artist Nicolas de Staël, Braque discovered that he could imbue landscape painting with interesting tactile qualities. Braque’s rough brushwork and application of thin and thick paint patches gives this scene a physicality.
